SUV driver charged in fiery crash that killed motorcyclist
The driver of an SUV has been charged in a fiery crash that killed a motorcyclist in one Eastern Carolina county.
The accident happened Wednesday afternoon the intersection of Moyock Commons Drive and Caratoke Highway in the Moyock area of Currituck County.
Troopers say 51-year-old Scott Drew, of Moyock, was hit from behind while on his motorcycle. The man died on the scene.
The SUV driver, 69-year-old Samuel Solomon, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Troopers say other charges are pending.
Solomon was critically injured in the crash.
Troopers say the man's SUV hit the motorcycle, throwing it into the back of a pickup truck. The pickup driver wasn't seriously injured.
Currituck County Fire-EMS says a motorcyclist has died and the driver of an SUV is in critical condition following a fiery accident Wednesday afternoon.
Just after 4:00 p.m. units from Currituck Fire-EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Moyock Commons Drive and Caratoke Highway in the Moyock area of Currituck County for a report of an accident with injuries.
Officials say three vehicles were involved with an SUV and motorcycle on fire.
Bystanders had already removed the driver of the SUV from the vehicle when crews arrived.
The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene, the driver from the SUV was critically injured, and the driver of the third vehicle, a pickup truck, sustained minor injuries.
The accident is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
