MOREHEAD CITY, NC (WITN) - The Morehead City town council recently approved funding for police officer body cameras. They say they hope the cameras provide better transparency within the community they serve.
The police department plans to purchase 10 body cameras for on-duty officers to wear while on patrol and will roll out the new equipment as soon as possible.
Morehead City Communications Director Alize Proisy said the cameras will be worn on the officer's front pockets of their uniforms.
The cameras cost just over $24,000 for ten cameras and the necessary programming.
Morehead City officials also have plans to add more cameras soon to provide each police officer with a body camera.
