Morehead City kindergartners send pictures to troops overseas
Some kindergarten students in the East were surprised Monday to find out that their pictures and handwritten notes for soldiers overseas had arrived.
Erica Ruder's kindergarten class at Morehead City Primary School learned on Monday that letters they'd sent to soldiers with the Army National Guard had arrived at their destination.
The students colored pictures that read "You are my hero," and they wrote special notes with each of the pictures.
The school's resource officer, who coordinated the project, said one of the soldiers in the unit who received the package is also a local police officer.
Teacher Erica Ruder said she got a little emotional being a part of the project.
"I read it aloud to the kids and I got a little teary-eyed because it's just to know you're touching somebody and cheering somebody up especially this time of year, we want to make everybody happy and feel good," said Ruder.
The military members said the pictures and notes are now hanging on barracks walls and lockers and that the package brightened everyone's day when soldiers opened it.
