Part of a major street in one Eastern Carolina city is closed, as yet another construction project slows drivers.

The state Department of Transportation is milling and repaving Evans Street, from Red Banks Road to Greenville Boulevard, in Greenville.

The busy street is down to just one lane in each direction because of the work.

It comes as thousands of East Carolina University students will soon be back in Greenville, while existing road projects on Arlington Boulevard and uptown have also created traffic headaches.

Ironically, the section of Evans they're repaving is the detour posted for drivers heading east on Arlington Boulevard. Greenville's mayor says the state never alerted the city that this work was taking place.

The good news is that the DOT says the work should be finished by tonight.
