CHOCOWINITY, NC (WITN) - Some Eastern Carolina students showed off their inventions to parents and fellow classmates Friday.
Those inventions range from devices to dog treats and were created by 8th grade Career Technical Education students at Chocowinity Middle School in a mock expo.
"We made a dog toy box," said Seth Leggett,"It's like one of the only homework assignments I actually like doing."
Students displayed their creations off to classmates and teachers and pretended their items were for sale. CTE teacher Vanessa Oden says the expo helps prepare them for high school
"It's just getting their feet wet a little bit saying 'hey I might want to take carpentry class when I get to Southside next year," said Oden.
Marie Frady is thinking of taking carpentry next year. She built a box out of recycled wood and broken CDs.
"I kind of like building. It makes me feel good about myself," said Frady.
Oden says especially for girl students that sense of empowerment can help them choose a career path and unlock a calling.
"Everybody can do something and everybody has that hidden talent," said Oden.
Vanessa Oden says about 25 of her students participated in the expo. She plans to hold future expos for her classes next year.
