LUMBERTON, N.C. (WITN) - Students at Lumberton Jr. High School are coping with the loss of their classmate Hania Aguilar.
The walls of the school are covered with tributes to Hania. Her body was found this week after she was kidnapped three weeks ago.
Students showed their love and support with handmade posters, flowers, beads and candles.
Many of the tributes included the color purple, which was hania's favorite color.
Friday has been declared "Wear Purple for Hania Day" at the school ... and the community is asked to wear purple, as well.
"The wonderful memories of Hania, loving smile, her laughter, funny conversations, kind acts, fun times will not be taken away by this senseless act of violence. Hania will always be a part of our Viking family," said Lumberton Jr. High School Principal Dr. Savon Maultsby.
Counselors are on hand at the school to help students and staff deal with their grief.
