Vidant Medical Center has put temporary restrictions for visitation at Maynard Children's Hospital beginning Wednesday.

Vidant officials say due to the number of people with respiratory viruses in the community there are limitations on who can visit. Only visitors 12 years old and older who aren't experiencing cold, flu, diarrhea, vomiting, or headache symptoms are allowed.

Healthy children under the age of 12 are allowed to visit a newborn sibling.

Vidant hopes this will help limit infections being spread while also protecting the patients and visitors at the hospital. The restrictions will be lifted once the threat of the illness throughout the community is decreased.
