According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Highway 94 South near Pity My Shoe Rd,

Troopers arrived at the scene shortly before 1 a.m. Friday morning.

A preliminary investigation indicates the driver over-corrected the vehicle, and ran off the left side of the road, before the car overturned and came to rest upside down in a canal.

The two boys, a 16-year old, and an 8-year old were pronounced dead the scene.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle.
