Marine admits to killing fellow Marine after argument

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A Marine admitted to killing his roommate last year who was also a Marine.

Corporal Javier Garzon pled guilty to second-degree murder this morning before an Onslow County judge.

Garzon was house-sitting at a friend's home on Parnell Road in Hubert last August when deputies found the body of Corporal David Rutherford in the backyard.

The New River Air Station Marine had been stabbed. Both men were assigned to the command element for the 22nd MEU and were roommates at New River.

Authorities say the two Marines were arguing before the murder.

The judge sentenced Garzon to serve between 25 and 31 years in state prison.
