UPDATE: Wanted Marine found hiding in attic

ROANOKE, VIRGINIA (WITN) - Authorities say a Marine that was wanted in the murder of his mother's boyfriend was found hiding in an attic.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says Michael Brown was arrested on Wednesday in the home where the murder is believed to have happened.

Authorities say they were investigating the home of Rodney Brown, the boyfriend of Michael Brown's mother, who was murdered back on November 9.

Officers say that's where they found Brown crawling out of the attic. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Brown was on the run for three weeks.

A sheriff in Virginia says that a Camp Lejeune Marine deserter wanted for murder was taken into custody at the scene of where the murder happened.

Franklin County Sheriff Bill Overton Jr. says that Michael Brown, 22, was arrested at his mother's home without incident around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

It's at that home that back on November 9th Brown is accused of fatally shooting his mother's boyfriend, Rodney Brown, then going on the run.

Officials say that Brown was alone at the home when he was arrested.

Overton says that the U.S. Marshals Office, Virginia State Police, the FBI, and the sheriff's office took part in the arrest.

The sheriff would not answer questions about the murder investigation and would only say that Brown is being interviewed.

Brown is a Camp Lejeune Marine and last lived in Craven County where search efforts also took place at one point.

The US Marshals Office says they received hundreds of tips regarding his whereabouts.

No other details on Brown's capture have been released. The US Marshals Office will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. to go over details.
