Shooting leads to nearby Greenville school being put into modified lockdown

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN)- Police say a school was put into lockdown out of an abundance of caution following a shooting in the city.

Greenville Police say that a 43-year-old man was shot in the leg in front of 1504 Hooker Road.

Officials say a student resource officer at J.H. Rose heard the dispatch to Hooker Road for the shooting and put the school into a modified lockdown. The shooting scene is a little over a mile from the school.

Police tell us the victim was taken to Vidant Medical Center. His wound did not appear to be life-threatening, police say.

Investigators believe this was a targetted shooting.

There is no information on a suspect at this time but police say they have strong leads.
