Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone says his deputies got a tip that Jonny Ramirez was involved in the possible sexual assault of a female around 5 a.m. Saturday in bailey.
Deputies went to Maldis Road where the man lives and approached him, which is when Ramirez reportedly pulled out a shotgun.
Sheriff Stone says Ramirez refused commands to drop the weapon and deputies had to defend themselves.
Officials have body cam footage that matches what the deputies say happened.
In a press conference, the sheriff also addressed concerns about the response of EMS to the scene.
"The allegations I heard was that EMS was not called immediately and I think within 14-15 minutes, EMS was on scene,” said Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone.
The sheriff says that the district attorney will release the footage when the time is appropriate.
Officials say that it's believed that bullets that hit a home came from the deputies.
