Man burned after yacht catches fire in Beaufort

BEAUFORT, NC (WITN) - A man was burned after a yacht caught fire this morning in Carteret County.

Beaufort Assistant Fire Chief Richard Lovick says it happened around 10:30 a.m. at Jarrett Bay Boatworks.

Lovick says when they arrived, the 35-foot yacht was about 30% involved in fire. Firefighters were able to get the fire knocked down pretty quickly, Lovick said.

A victim with possible third degree burns to his arms was first taken to Carteret Health Care and then airlifted to another hospital. His condition is not yet known.

Lovick says the boat, which was out of the water being worked on, is a total loss.

The county fire marshal is investigating what started the fire.
