Man injured after 54-foot boat catches fire in Belhaven

BELHAVEN, NC (WITN) - A man was injured and it took firefighters several hours to put out a boat fire last night in Belhaven.

Beaufort County Emergency Management says Belhaven firefighters were the first to be called out around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday to Day Beacon Marina.

They found a 2014 54-foot Power Cat on fire.

It took firefighters from Belhaven, Bunyan, Bath, along with crews from NC Wildlife and the US Coast Guard, some two and a half hours to put out the fire.

The boat was owned by a Florida couple, and authorities say the man was taken to Vidant Beaufort Hospital with unknown injuries.

Emergency management says a boom was put around the boat as some 300 to 350 gallons of fuel had leaked out.

There's no word yet on how the fire began.
