Man gets 23-28 years in prison after admitting to killing his uncle

WALLACE, NC (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina man will spend at least the next 23 years in prison for killing his uncle.

Geovoney West pled guilty today to second degree murder in connection with the 2015 death of Walter West.

The murder happened on October 4, 2015, on Raleigh Road in Wallace.

Wallace police said the victim had been shot twice inside the home. The man's 10-year-old son discovered him dead.

Over the years, police say West used several stall and delay tactics to keep the case from being heard, including changing lawyers five times.

At sentencing, West apologized to the victim's wife and asked for forgiveness.
