A Maryland man has died after being pulled from the ocean off the Outer Banks.

Nags Head officials say that rescue crews responded around 3 p.m. to the 8300 block of South Old Oregon Inlet Road for a report of a man found floating face down in the ocean.

Members of Nags Head Ocean Rescue were able to get the man to the beach where they began CPR. The man was later pronounced dead.

The case is under investigation and the exact cause of death is unknown at this time.

Red "no swimming" flags were posted on Nags Head's beaches Thursday, officials say.
