Major progress in hurricane recovery at North Topsail Beach

NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WITN) North Topsail Beach saw major damage from Hurricane Florence, but recovery there has been moving along nicely.

North Topsail Beach Mayor Dan Tuman says that most, but not all of the public beaches are open.

The beaches are considered safe and clear of debris.

The town is currently placing donated Christmas trees along the beach to restore the dunes, which the mayor says is the top priority moving forward.

The state appropriated $5 million for all of Topsail Island to use for recovery after Hurricane Florence and North Topsail Beach with get a portion of that.

Nearly all of the 800 residents that live in the town year round have returned.
