EASTERN CAROLINA, NC (WITN) Two eastern Carolina detectives are being recognized for their role in an operation that led to the indictments of 17 gang members.
For the first time, the NC Gang Investigators Association presented the Gang Investigator of the Year as a dual award during their annual conference.
Jacksonville Police Detective Kevin Doyle and New Bern Police Detective Jeffrey Weaver were presented with the honor.
They were recognized for work on Operation 190, which was an investigation focused on a gang-related heroin distribution ring operating between Jacksonville and New Bern.
Operation 190 led to the indictment of 17 gang members, which afterwards resulted in solving two cold case homicides and information on how the organization was responsible for the distribution of over 150 kilograms of heroin in eastern North Carolina.
Also seen in the picture is Eastern District Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Howard who was recognized as Prosecutor of the year.
