Local activist groups to protest offshore drilling in Raleigh Monday

Several busloads of people are leaving Eastern Carolina Monday, heading to Raleigh to protest offshore drilling.

The Rally to Raleigh movement is taking coastal residents from Wilmington, Morehead City and Nags Head to the state capitol for a public meeting.

Organizers say the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is holding the meeting to discuss a proposal to allow drilling for oil and gas three miles off the North Carolina coast.

The North Carolina Coastal Federation and more than a dozen other groups opposed to offshore drilling have organized the event and chartered the buses.
