Lenoir Community College is offering 100 students the chance for a free college education.

LCC President Rusty Hunt says the program, called LCC Guarantee, is funded through foundation donors.

He says, "We'll cover up to 60 hours of their education, they can get a two year degree and what we require of them frankly is a 3.0 GPA coming out of high school and them to complete three CCP courses which are career-college promise courses."

CCP courses are college courses taken in high school.

Hunt says this is the first year they're offering this scholarship opportunity to help the community.

He says, "Really exciting opportunity for them and their families to really have two years under your belt, and no student debt. You're in a much better place."

While LCC if initially offering 100 scholarships, they're hoping to expand that in the future.

The deadline to apply is March 30th.
