One city is now looking for a new police chief.

Kinston Police Chief Alonzo Jaynes is retiring after being with the city for three years.

He worked as the was assistant police chief in Chapel Hill and also spent 19 years with the Durham Police Department.

Jaynes told WITN he believes Kinston is in a good place and it's time for a change in law enforcement leadership.

Major Tim Dilday will become the interim police chief, but there's still no word on who will be chosen to lead the department permanently.

A farewell event was held at the Kinston Community Center on Friday for the chief.
