Kill Devil Hills opens handicapped beach access

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WITN) - A beach here in the east will unveil it's first fully handicap accessible beach access point today.

The town of Kill Devil Hills has added a new wooded ramp and several roll-out mats on top of the sand at the Ocean Bay Boulevard beach access. It will allow wheelchairs to get from the parking lot to the beach.

The town also bought three new wheelchairs for anyone to borrow.

The improvements were done through a grant and are in honor of former Town Commissioner Bill Pitt.

A grand opening of the ramp is scheduled for 10 a.m. this morning.
