Jacksonville teen arrested on gun violation following accidental shooting

Investigators responding to a call of an accidental shooting end up arresting a teen for having a gun that deputies say had its serial number scratched off.
Onslow County Deputies responded to a call on May 13th to the area of Yaupon Drive for a reported accidental shooting.
The victim refused to press charges on the shooter, describing the events as accidental.
Prior to the deputies' arrival, the suspect left the scene; however, the handgun used in the shooting and an additional handgun were recovered after a search of the scene by detectives.
The handgun used in the shooting was discovered to have had its serial number scratched off.
Deputies arrested 18-year-old Jourden Tairee Shepard of Skipping Stone Lane in Jacksonville and charged him with possession of a firearm with altered serial number. H
Shepard was released under an unsecured $5,000 bond.
