J.H. Rose's Mydreon Vines having "fantastic" ECU football camp
Former J.H. Rose star wide receiver Mydreon Vines is having a "fantastic" preseason camp, according to ECU football head coach Mike Houston.
Houston also said that Vines has been very "solid" during camp.
"Mydreon has come out and competed really, really well every single day," said Houston after the sixth practice of preseason camp. "I thought he was one of those that was really challenged today. It will be interesting to see the film and see how he performed. It seemed like he continued to compete at a high level today. But I'm very, very pleased with him. Since I got here, you hear stuff when you come in and I try not to pay a whole lot of attention to the past stuff, but for us, for me, I think he's been fantastic. Really excited about him in our program."
The 6-foot-1 wide receiver played in all 12 games as a reserve last season. He recorded 12 catches for 155 yards and one touchdown.
But Vines is hoping to make an even bigger impact this season.
That may end up being the case, especially since Houston said after practice Thursday that Vines is making a positive impact when it comes to blocking for his teammates on the perimeter.
"I've seen the same thing," added ECU offensive coordinator Donnie Kirkpatrick. "He's come back in great shape. I think he's come back with a little bit more confidence. I think he knows what we're doing. He is making some plays. We're still looking for a little more consistency out of him. But he has definitely got himself in the mix. Coming out of spring, I wasn't sure where he was."
