Hundreds of pounds of medicine collected during Operation Medicine Drop

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Hundreds of pounds of expired and unused prescriptions are out of medicine cabinets and in the hands of law enforcement officials after this weekend's Operation Medicine Drop.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office and Safe Kids Pitt County partnered to help fight against the opioid epidemic in the community by collecting unused medicines Saturday.

The event ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Harris Teeter on Firetower Road in Greenville.

In total, the event collected 335.5 pounds of medication that can now be safely and properly destroyed.
