Hundreds of Marine families receive free Christmas trees

CHERRY POINT, NC (WITN) - Hundreds of military families in Eastern Carolina got into the Christmas spirit today---and it was all free!

The Trees for Troops program delivered 400 live Christmas trees to the Cherry Point Air Station this morning.

Dozens of vehicles were lined up to get one of the free firs.

FedEx Freight delivers the trees to help out service members and their families celebrate the holidays.

Over the 14 years that the program has been in existence, more than 200,000 trees have been given to members of each branch of the military.

This year, Trees for Troops are delivering holiday evergreens to nearly 65 different military bases.
