GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) Community leaders in Greenville came together Thursday for a holiday celebration for senior citizens.
Greenville's Community Relations held its annual holiday meal for seniors. Those in attendance were treated to music, gifts, and even a hot meal served up by the men and women that protect our community.
Members of the Greenville Fire and Rescue, Police and Pitt County Sheriff's Office stepped out of their patrol cars and into an apron for the big event.
Greenville Police Chief Mark Holtzman says, "Christmas time is just a great time to get out put on an apron and serve the community and really our senior citizens are really the backbone, they are our legacy in the community and they're the ones that laid the ground work to have the community that we do have so it's a good time to stop and give back to them."
Organizers say every senior was also given a gift bag filled with treats to take home.
