Heavy traffic should be expected across Greenville this week as students prepare for 2019 Commencement ceremonies at ECU.

Commencement is scheduled for Friday, May 3 at 7pm at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

ECU Police Lt. Chris Sutton says roughly 3,500 students will graduate Friday and upwards of 15,000 people are expected to attend Commencement.

Drivers in the Uptown Greenville area will want to pay particular attention as the Town Creek Culvert project continues to force traffic pattern changes throughout Uptown.

Right now, 5th Street is closed between Reade and South Holly Streets near the ECU main campus.

Drivers will detour from Elm Street to 1st Street and can then use Reade or Cotanche Street depending on your direction of travel.

Sidewalks are also closed in this area and no pedestrian traffic is allowed.
