Heavy rain causes flash flooding in Uptown Greenville

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - The City of Greenville saw more than an inch of rainfall over a three-hour span Sunday, which lead to flash flooding near ECU.

Photos taken in Uptown Greenville show water reaching the top of the tires on several cars in the Chico's parking lot near the corner of Cotanche Street and Reade Circle.

City officials warned drivers passing through the area to avoid the intersections at Reade Circle and Evans Street, Hooker Road and Dickinson Avenue and Memorial Drive at Third Street and Stantonsburg Road.

Water began to recede around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
