Health department will test samples of water for private water wells

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Residents in Carteret County with private drinking water wells should continue using bottled water until a sample has been tested if they had experienced flooding during Hurricane Florence, the Carteret County Environmental Health Department said.

The health department staff is offering to visit resident's properties to collect a free bacteriological samples for those private water wells.

Before the sampling can happen, citizens would need to disinfect and chlorinate their well once the flooding has receded and power has been restored, the department said.

People can start calling the health department to request a sampling on Monday at 252-728-8499.
