LENOIR COUNTY, NC (WITN) - The NC Highway Patrol says that a head-on wreck Tuesday in Lenoir County resulted in a woman's death.
Troopers tell WITN that Edna Smith, 63, of Winterville, was killed in the crash that happened around 4:15 p.m. on Dobbs Farm Road near the National Guard Armory.
Officials say Smith was heading east on the road when Perry Miller, 44, of Kinston, crossed the center line while heading west bound. Troopers say Miller's SUV hit Smith's SUV head-on in the driver's side.
Miller has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, according to the highway patrol.
A head-on crash Tuesday afternoon shut down a Lenoir County highway.
The accident happened around 4:15 p.m.on Dobbs Farm Road just outside of Kinston near the National Guard Armory.
It involved two SUVs and there were injuries. A trooper investigating the crash would not say how serious those injuries were.
The highway was expected to reopen by 6:00 p.m.
