Havelock rallying around student burned in boat engine explosion

HAVELOCK, NC (WITN) Community members in Havelock are rallying in support for one student who is now in a tragic fight for his life.

Havelock High School senior AJ Frazier, and his father Art, were both involved in a boat engine explosion last week.

Frazier is heavily sedated at the UNC Burn Center with severe second and third degree burns.

Frazier is also a cancer survivor and a trombone player in his high school band.

Members are currently creating t-shirts and support bracelets to raise funds for his recovery.

Havelock High School band director Jorge Benitez says, "He was able to really kind of create an environment where we cared for each other, and as soon as the kids found out that he was in that horrible accident, they wanted to do something for him."

T-shirts and bracelets should go on sale within the next week -- and a fundraising page has been set up where almost $8,000 has been raised.
