Havelock High senior killed walking home from work on Highway 24

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (WITN) - Deputies are asking anyone who saw a high school student walking along a busy Eastern Carolina highway before he was struck and killed this morning to give them a call.

Antoine Godette, Jr., of Bogue Loop Road, died in the 3:40 a.m. accident along Highway 24 near Island Auto Detailing in Broad Creek.

The 18-year-old was a senior at Havelock High School and deputies say he had gotten off work at the Wendy's in Morehead City and was walking home.

Deputies say the teen was wearing all dark clothing and reportedly was already lying in the road when he was struck.

The driver of the vehicle, who is from Greensboro, and other witnesses, called 911 and waited for authorities to arrive.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
