Harkers Island restaurant sustains heavy damage in fire

An Eastern Carolina restaurant has been heavily damaged after a fire broke out late Friday night.

Crews responded to a structure fire at the Captain's Choice restaurant last night at Harkers Island.

Authorities say it took took fire crews nearly three hours to contain the blaze.

Harkers Island was assisted by crews from Morehead City, Beaufort, Otway, Marshallberg, and the Carteret County Fire Marshal's office.

The public was asked to avoid the area of Island Road and Ferry Dock Road.

Authorities say the building received heavy damage.
