NEW BERN, NC (WITN) - The soon to be homeowners of the 65th home by Habitat for Humanity in Craven County reflected on the process Wednesday, saying they applied about two years ago and were just elected last November.
The house took about nine months to build. While they said they were patient, they said the wait wasn't always easy. They had been living in an apartment that was flooded during the hurricane, destroying everything on their first floor, and forcing them to live with a family member for the past several months.
But as a mother of three, Chen Paw said the new home is a perfect gift for her children.
"The kids are very happy, and they're looking forward to having a new home. So for the kids, they are very happy. It's a pleasure for her that God blessed her family and that's why she got this home," she said.
Habitat officials say, the family's closing date is scheduled for next week, giving them plenty of time to move into their new home before Christmas.
