Gun & knife show owner admits to federal charges

NEW BERN, NC (WITN) - The owner of a gun & knife show admits to federal charges that he possessed firearms as a convicted felon.

Sherwood Caraway, 62, of Merritt, pled guilty in New Bern federal court to illegally possessing firearms and ammunition while being a felon. Caraway owns S&D Gun and Knife Show.

Back in 2005, the feds say Caraway was convicted of federal charges of unlawfully dealing in firearms without a license.

Despite this, authorities say the man continued to possess guns and ammo at his home.

In September 2017, the man's home was raided by Pamlico County deputies who seized nine firearms and dozens of boxes of ammunition while another 33 weapons were found at his daughter's nearby home.

A month earlier, Caraway sponsored a gun and knife show at the Greenville Convention Center.

At sentencing, the man faces up to 10 years in federal prison and up to $250,000 in fines.
