Grifton police officer facing multiple child porn charges

CRAVEN COUNTY, NC (WITN) - A Grifton police officer was in court this morning after his arrest on child porn charges.

Jason Lovick, 31, is facing eight counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor in Craven County.

Grifton Chief Bryan Silva says Lovick had only been with the department for 3-1/2 weeks and as of yesterday he was no longer with the town.

The SBI said on Wednesday they searched the officer's home in Vanceboro after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

That tip said there was a Facebook account that reportedly sent images of child sexual exploitation. The SBI says that account was traced to Lovick.

During the search, agents say they seized numerous digital devices and Lovick's cell phone.

Arrest warrants say they found numerous pictures of girls believed to be as young as eight years old engaged in sexual activity.

The SBI says Lovick was a corporal with Grifton and recently had worked for the Craven County Sheriff's Office for several years. He had also been employed by the Vanceboro Police Department and the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office.

Lovick was released on an $80,000 secured bond and was given a March 1st date for his next court appearance.
