Greenville native returns home to host women empowerment forum
Niya Brown Matthews is a two time breast cancer survivor, author, life coach, and speaker who felt a calling to empower and uplift women.
Matthews held a women empowerment forum Sunday afternoon at the Greenville Convention center to speak to women and hopefully encourage them.
She travels the country to share her knowledge and faith through series called "Soul Food Sessions with Niya."
The series is full of weekend retreats and brunches Matthews created for women to be inspired, transparent, and encouraged.
Sunday's forum, was a spinoff of that series.
Matthews says the forums and retreats through these sessions help women to open up about making real changes.
"Why not just give them something for their bellies but also for their souls. So, Soul Food Sessions, and that's the name of my book as well. I'm just giving you affirmations, nuggets, just empowering your better self," says Matthews.
She says it's important to pour back into women who are constantly pouring into others.
"Often times you're going, going, going. Who pours back into them? For those dynamic women, mothers, entrepreneurs. I am here to give something back to you so that you can live your full purpose," Matthews adds.
Friend and forum attendee Shewanda Terry says hearing Matthews speak at retreats and forums has had a positive impact on her own life.
"My inner has been touched, like I have grown so much just coming to Soul Food Sessions with Niya," says Terry.
Terry's books "The boss in you" and "Soul food session: 21 Day Devotional to Elevate Your Life" are available on Amazon.
