Man charged after Greenville landscaper shot in dispute with apartment complex resident

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - Police have charged a man after they say a landscaper was shot during a dispute with an apartment complex resident.

Dearl Powell, 42, of Greenville, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

The shooting happened at the at Carolina Cove Apartments on Arlington Boulevard around 12:50 p.m. Monday.

Police say Julius Chapman was shot in the leg and was taken to Vidant Medical Center.

The apartment complex is across the street from J.H. Rose High School.

Powell posted a $75,000 bond and was released from jail.

A person is in custody after a shooting that happened directly across the street from one Eastern Carolina high school this afternoon.

Greenville police say a resident of Carolina Cove Apartments on Arlington Boulevard and a landscaping employee got into some sort of dispute around 12:50 p.m.

The landscaper was shot in the leg, according to police, who have the resident in custody.

The apartments are across the street from J.H. Rose High School.

The shooting victim was taken to Vidant Medical Center for what police called non-life threatening injuries.

Names of those involved have yet to be released.
