Greenville computers still down following ransomware attack

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) The city of Greenville is still without the use of its computers following a ransomware attack last Wednesday.

Greenville city spokesman Brock Letchworth says city computers are still down, and there is no timeline for when they will be up and running again.

He says the FBI continues to investigate, and that city IT staff and outside experts continue to work on restoring things to normal. He says the ordeal has been challenging for city staff, but that the city remains open for business, and is still serving the citizens.

Letchworth says, "Technology does not run the city. It makes things easier of course, but the people run the city, and we're just finding different ways to go about doing our job."

City officials haven't disclosed what ransom amount was demanded to free up the computers. Letchworth says there are still no plans to pay the ransom.
