Greenville Fire-Rescue celebrates Fire Prevention Month with community events

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A local fire department is celebrating Fire Prevention Month with more than 70 community events.

Greenville Fire-Rescue is holding story hour at each of the Greenville public libraries, starting Tuesday at 7 p.m. with a reading of No Dragons for Tea at the East Branch Library at 2000 Cedar Lane.

Firefighters will also perform a fire safety puppet show for kids and families.

The second story hour is planned for October 19 at the downtown branch of the Sheppard Memorial Library located at 530 Evans Street. It also starts at 7pm.

The third and final story hour will be held on October 26 at the Carver Branch Library located at 618 W 14th Avenue at 10am.

On October 24, fire officials will hold their second annual Fire & Ice Fundraiser for the Pitt County United Way in the truck bay of Station 1 from 4 pm - 6pm.

The event is an open house with games for the kids, a silent raffle, food, treats from Kona Ice, the announcement of the Fire Prevention Month Poster Contest winners and a fire safety puppet show.

Officials will also be talking about fire prevention at the Healthy Aging and Wellness Expo held by the Pitt Aging Coalition at the Greenville Convention Center on October 19 from 9 am - 1pm.
