Grady-White named Pitt County Industry of the Year

PITT COUNTY, NC (WITN) A mainstay of eastern Carolina has just been named Pitt County's Industry of the Year.

Grady-White Boats was selected by Pitt County for the 2018 to 2019 honor.

Founded in 1959, Grady-White employs around 200 people who are responsible for the 28 models of fiberglass offshore, sport fishing, and family fishing boats ranging from 18 to 45 feet.

Officials with the Pitt County Development Commission say that the company has brought manufacturing jobs to our region incrementally and through expansions over the years, has weathered recessions, innovated to stay on top in the industry and has given back to the community in many ways.

Randy Walters with the Pitt County Development Commission says, "It is tremendous. We just left seeing 350 employees all of them may not live in Pitt County but all of them impact Pitt County economically as an individual. As a corporation and as the Smith Foundation, it impacts almost every household in one way or another through their philanthropy in Pitt County."

The Industry of the Year award will be presented at the annual existing industries reception on February 12th.
