GOLDSBORO, NC (WITN) - A road in one Eastern Carolina county will close for the rest of the year to replace a deteriorating bridge.

D.O.T. officials say contractors will start replacing a bridge at North Beston Road over Bear Creek in Wayne County this morning.

A new bridge will be built to replace the one that has been there for more than 65 years.

Drivers will be detoured onto New Hope Road, Hope Road, Mark Edwards Road and Parkstown Road.

Officials say while the bridge has been safe, it hasn't met the demands of the traffic.

The road and bridge are expected to open again at the end of December.
