GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) Greenville Utilities has reported a wastewater spill of an estimated 42,780 gallons that was discovered at 10:38 a.m. Friday morning.
The incident occurred at a manhole upstream from the Westside Regional Pump Station, located off West 5th Street.
GUC says the spill was caused by pump station equipment failure, resulting in a wastewater discharge into the Tar River.
GUC responded immediately to isolate the problem. Crews returned the pump station to normal operation and stopped the spill by 12:45 p.m. The affected spill site was treated with a chlorine solution.
The Division of Water Quality was notified of the spill.
