A local utilities company is helping people beat the summer heat.
The Greenville Utilities Commission is helping people cool down by donating fans to those in need Thursday.
The energy services provider will donate 50 fans to the Council on Aging and the Department of Social Services.
The goal is to give heat relief to the elderly, handicapped or qualifying families during the hot and humid summer months.
"The heat and humidity of eastern North Carolina summers can create a real hardship for many families who suffer because of lack of air conditioning or fans," said Tony Cannon, General Manager/CEO of Greenville Utilities. "Fans are an economical way to get some relief from the heat, and we are pleased to provide them as a gesture of community support."
This is the 24th year the company has donated fans.
