Free rabies clinic in honor of World Rabies Day

Rabies Warning

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A local animal shelter is giving out free rabies vaccines in honor of World Rabies Day Friday.

Pet owners can go to Craven Pamlico Animal Services with their dogs, cats or ferrets between 1 p.m.- 6 p.m. Friday for a free one year rabies vaccine. Organizers say they'll be giving out shots on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies run out.

All pets must be at least four months old and up to date on their current vaccinations.

Over the summer, multiple rabies cases were reported in the east, including one in Pamlico County and five in Duplin County.

Animal control officers say pet owners could be charged under state law if their animals are not up to date on their vaccines.
