CRAVEN COUNTY, NC (WITN) Filling bellies and easing the burden on families is what one program is hoping to do for students at several schools in the east.
The Community Eligibility Provision Program will make sure all students eat free for the next four years at qualifying schools in Craven County.
Right now there are four schools in Craven County that qualify to participate in the program. Those families can receive breakfast and lunch at no charge.
CEP is funded through the USDA and reimburses schools for meals for every student at those schools once the need has been verified and soon Craven County nutrition staff hope to add seven more schools to the list of qualified schools.
The Craven County Board of Education will still need to approve using CEP at the additional schools before it will take effect. Carteret County Schools is also participating at the middle and elementary school level.
