A former New Bern police officer has been charged with stealing mechanical pencils and a piece of metal jewelry while on the job.
District Attorney Scott Thomas says Bradley Williams, 23, was arrested Monday and charged with misdemeanor larceny and obstruction of justice after an SBI investigation.
Warrants say the former narcotics officer stole the two pencils and jewelry that belonged to Jacqueline and Jeffrey Magee. Williams is accused of obstructing justice by stealing the items while he was executing a search warrant back on April 27th, according to the district attorney.
The search happened during a drug investigation, but there's no record of the Magee's being arrested for a crime.
Williams resigned as a police officer when the investigation began into the theft. He was released on a $500 cash bond and has his first court date on July 5th.
