A former East Carolina University football player has been indicted after authorities say he walked into a Greensboro high school heavily armed with loaded guns.
Steve Spence, 29, of Norfolk, Virginia, was indicted by a federal grand jury for interstate transportation of a stolen motor vehicle, traveling with the intent to kill, injure, harass, and intimidate in an attempt to commit a crime of domestic violence, and using and carrying firearms in relation to a crime of violence.
Back in December, police say Spence showed a gun inside Smith High School and an employee immediately radioed for a lockdown. A school resource officer caught Spence as he tried to get away, police say.
Police believe the man showed up looking for an employee that he had a personal relationship with.
Spence played for the Pirates during the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons as a linebacker.
If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
