First time fireworks sellers say business is booming

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The rainy forecast has many people wondering what the effects will be on Fourth of July celebrations and businesses that are selling fireworks.

First time fireworks sellers, Michael and Jo Rutherford, say their business -- Starlight Fireworks -- is doing really well. Michael says, "All of our assortments are almost completely depleted and now we're making assortments or managers specials...and they are getting snatched up."

They say the Fourth of July and fireworks bring people together, "We like to support our local community...because we're pretty tight knit here in Onslow County. A lot of people may not see it," said Jo. "But we love our military. We're all American. We're patriots, and we want to celebrate our day."

The Rutherfords say they've actually seen more business when it rains outside, and that the looming stormy weather is not a concern for them. "You know...when its raining, we get a lot of our business while it's raining."

If you are someone who will be lighting fireworks Monday, the National Council on Fireworks Safety says you should always have a bucket of water and a charged hose nearby. You should dispose of fireworks by wetting them down and placing them in a metal trashcan away from other combustibles.
